Much like I felt when I made the transition from fashion to interiors back in 2014 (did you even know I was called I Heart Fashion for five years solid?!), it’s fair to say I’ve been on quite a soul-searching journey of late considering the future of Apartment Number 4.
As my love for clothing started to waver back then and my tastes and passions were geared more towards homeware and putting my stamp on my first “real” home, I remember finding myself at a crossroads, not really knowing which direction I wanted this blog to grow in. And here we are again, four years later.
Interior styling and journalism is my first love, it always will be – hence the reason I launched 4 Magazine earlier this year, as an extension of this blog. Recently, however, I’ve found myself craving the virtual space on the blog to write varying content – all with the end goal of inspiring people. Inspiring them to achieve their goals, motivational posts, tips and advice on being in a more positive frame of mind.
You’ll know if you’re a regular reader of Apartment Number 4 how, over the last 12 months, I’ve begun following the teachings of the Law of Attraction and try to integrate a more spiritual way of living into my day-to-day life now, including visualisation, goal setting, manifesting and meditation. It’s such a huge part of my being now, that I almost feel like I’m missing a piece of the jigsaw by not having space to write about how it’s changing my life.
The question I had to ask myself was, did I start another blog? I’m not sure even if time allowed it – which it doesn’t – I would want to create two separate online destinations.
But after analysing Google Analytics earlier this month – the platform for anyone with a website to learn more about the demographics of their reader, what pages they’re reading etc – it revealed something I wasn’t quite prepared for.
Over the last year, my top 10 most read posts include how the book The Secret changed my life, my miracle morning routine for success and 10 lessons I’ve learned since becoming a freelancer. These were the posts with the most interaction, the most engagement, the posts that made people take time out of their day to message me and tell me how relatable they found the content.
Yes, interiors content was still popular, and it’s one of the main reasons people know my work, but there had to be a reason why those personal, more inspiring posts were performing so well.
So where is my head at now? You may have seen a poll on my Instagram earlier today asking for people’s honest thoughts on branching out into other areas and one message really struck a chord – why couldn’t I just create a space that inspired people. That’s it. No hypothetical fencing around what I thought I was supposed to write. From your home to your heart, Apartment Number 4 could be a destination where you head to for motivation towards a goal you’ve set, for décor inspiration for your new office, ideas on creating the perfect brunch, how to create a vision board for the new season – you get the picture right? It could be all those things and more.
I always take it as a good sign when you feel instantly excited about making a change. You know when you don’t want to go to sleep because you’re not ready to stop working yet. Yup, that’s me right now. I feel reenergised and I’m eager to start creating new content.
P.S Please don’t worry if you head to Apartment Number 4 for interiors advice, it’s still going to be here – just mixed in with more ideas and advice on living a more inspired life, which I really hope you’ll enjoy along the way too.
