Scandinavian Meets Californian Interior Design

Surfing Pinterest over the last couple of months, I began to notice a trend immerging within mainstream interiors, where Scandinavian design has been blended with Californian styling. Scandifornian if you like.

It’s a marriage made in heaven in my opinion, with clean lines and sleek silhouettes in furniture choices, teamed with tactile fabrics and warm colour tones.

Although on the map, these two couldn’t be further apart, in terms of interior design, they balance each other out perfectly. There’s a real laid back feel to this trend, but with signature Cali-boho vibes being stripped back by the minimalistic approach to interiors Scandinavians are renowned for.

Stylists, bloggers and designers who have this style down to a tee include Sarah Sherman Samuel and photographer Susanna Hawkins – the latter who calls her style Scandinavian maximalist and has the most perfect house I’ve ever seen.

Characteristics of this trend include the use of ash wood, sheepskin throws, rattan and wicker, brass teamed with concrete, glass, Danish-inspired furniture silhouettes, warm whites next to dusty pinks, light washed out blues and taupes, leafy plants and paired back decorative styling.
