White shutters in kitchen

MAKING A STATEMENT WITH SHUTTERS WHATEVER YOUR TASTE

White shutters in kitchen

I’m a huge fan of shutters. Like huge. I spend hours planning my future house on Pinterest and if you’re following me on there (and if not, why not?!) you’ll no doubt spot plantation shutters crop up repeatedly.

You all know I’m a huge fan of the light, bright coastal look – check out my last house tour – and white shutters just scream Hampton’s summer house. So today I’ve partnered with shutter experts, Shutterly Fabulous, to show you how shutters can transform your home, even if you’re not the Hampton’s kind of girl (or guy!).

I’m always championing British brands on Apartment Number 4, and today is no different. I was first introduced to the brand when I wrote about their collaboration with interior design Queen, Kelly Hoppen, back in April of last year. A British company which began its life in Brighton in 2001, Shutterly Fabulous has design specialists in London, Manchester and Birmingham, with installation teams available nationwide.

Offering a plethora of options, you can choose from plantation window shutters (firmly on the wish list), solid panel wood shutters, wooden shutters for doors, tier on tier shutters, café style shutters, tracked door and full height shutters.

Using only premium grade timber for their hardwood shutters, you can guarantee quality is at the forefront of this brand’s ethos. But if you’re thinking installing shutters will make the bank call up and check you’ve not been cloned, Shutterly Fabulous guarantee its customer the lowest UK price for wooden plantation shutters and will match any like-for-like quotation. Yes, they’re an investment, but the benefits they add to a property are second to none.

I’d say the best point about this brand – aside from the price match – is the fact that the brand has its own custom colour service, enabling you to have a colour match to a shade of your choice. Erm, hello millennial pink, where are you?

So, as I mentioned above, I wanted to show you a couple of ways shutters can add a statement to your home regardless of your taste. First up we have…

Traditional style interiors

John Lewis Christmas Tree

An obvious one to start with, traditional décor suits shutters to a tee. I mean, could this scene be any more picturesque? Offering not only the ultimate in curb appeal, shutters also provide the perfect amount of privacy from the street outside – a great idea around Christmas time when you can’t move for presents around the tree.

Modern Style Interiors

Wooden shutters in the bathroom

There’s some incredibly New York about this bathroom set-up – the subway tiles, the black standalone bath, it’s all very industrial. And that’s the beauty of shutters – they work effortlessly in so many spaces. Another plus point is the fact that dust is much easier to wipe of wooden stats than blinds or curtains, meaning a healthier, cleaner home.

Rustic Inspired Interiors

Cafe style shutters in a rustic farm kitchen

This French farmhouse style of interior is a timeless classic and café style shutters such as the ones featured here keep your space light but also offer extra privacy with half-height plantation shutters for stylish street-facing rooms. This grey shade also works perfectly against white walls, industrial pendant lighting and rustic finish on the furniture.

Dark & Dramatic Interiors

Black shutters in a dark and dramatic living room

If your interior design is more gothic than girly, black shutters can create a real statement in the room. This style is perfect for a more masculine take on decorating a home and full-height shutters offer symmetry and sophistication. Plus, in such a dramatic space, it’s great to have light control, throwing back your shutters to let the light flood in or angle the louvres upwards to keep the sun from fading furniture – don’t, however, worry about fading shutters as each design is finished with a UV protective paint or stain.

Eclectic Interiors

Two tone blue plantation shutters

Perhaps one of my favourite design choices for shutters – two-tone to create an ombre effect. How amazing would this look going from light pink to dark pink? With the ability to colour match any shade for you, it allows so much more freedom when designing the interior of a room. I also really like that fact that closing shutters at dusk is proven to insulate windows and can dramatically reduce your heating costs. Why not choose FSC® certification for sustainable Poplar hardwood shutters that use even fewer precious resources.

Bright & Bold Interiors

Pink shutters in nursery

I’ve already mentioned my love for pink, but how gorgeous is this idea for a bedroom or nursery? A fully-closed wooden shutter acts as a natural noise barrier, which is great for a children’s room when naps are essential, plus open or shut, Shutterly Fabulous shutters are too sturdy to bang and rattle around like blinds. We all know the feeling when the washing machine is on its final spin and you’re sure it’s about to take off.

As you can see, there are so many variations, not only in design but colour too, offering a completely personalised product. Are shutters something you’d consider for your home? If so, what colour and style would you choose?

*Post in collaboration with Shutterly Fabulous, but as always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

  1. I didn’t know about the colour-match service. The black ones might be the right fit for a bedroom. Right, 2018 will be the year of the shutters: lounge and bedroom get ready!
